You deserve the opportunity to savour the unique flavours of special wine from “less fashionable” wine regions around the world. At Gold Medal Wines we offer a selection of world class Reds (and a brilliant Late Harvest) from Chile.

If you thought Chile doesn’t produce world class wines, think again:

• Chilean Reds came in 1st and 2nd at the Berlin blind tasting that ranked sixteen of the best red wines from France, Italy and Chile (including $500 French first-growths and $185 Super Tuscans).
• A Chilean Red was ranked 3rd in the Wine Spectator magazine’s “The World’s Top Wines in 2004”.
• Chilean red wines outperformed NZ red wines in all of the major international wine competitions in 2004.

Madame Rothschild, owner of the famous Chateau Lafite-Rothschild was asked why she was pouring millions of dollars into Chile, “With Chile’s climate and rootstock and our expertise, we will produce world beating red wine”. French investment, both expertise and financial, is having a profound effect on Chilean red wines.

We invite you to taste our wines. Their quality has been recognised in important international competitions, but they are as different in style as they are similar in recognition. Our wineries are from four different wine regions of Chile, each with their own specific terroir, and the resulting differences in flavour and aroma make for an interesting tasting session in itself.

We also encourage you to try a selection of our Carmenere. It is a noble Bordeaux variety that had disappeared off the wine map for over 125 years, and is now causing a stir in the wine world. We have the largest (and best) selection of Carmenere in New Zealand. You can’t really say you’re a wine lover until you discover the mystery of Carmenere.
