“Bright citrine yellow. Sweet scents of passionfruit and honey. Light to medium-bodied, very sweet, a little high-toned perhaps and quite leesy with passionfruit, gooseberry, tropical, honey and a touch of zesty citrus too. Add a little spritz and it would be like a sparkling Muscat. Great Value.”

From the Maule Valley (not known for its Sauvignon Blancs) this is a very good dessert wine. For some reason we don't get many Late Harvest Sauvignon Blancs in NZ. This is surprising given it is the number one planted grape here. For the purists, the sweet wines of Sauternes in Bordeaux are mostly botrytis affected Semillon with some Sauvignon Blanc blended in.
Perhaps the natural acidity of Sauvignon Blanc doesn't lend it to making sweet wines. But this is not the case with this Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc. Probably the conditions of the Maule Valley (hotter than Hawkes Bay) have something to do with the lower acidity, but whatever the case, this is a very moorish, not at all cloying Late Harvest that has been a huge hit for us at the Food Shows when we have sold it there.
As the review from Sue Courtney says - "Great Value"!
