Cono Sur

"No Family Trees.  No Dusty Bottles.  Just Quality Wine" They could equally add "and Innovation". Cono Sur has led the way in pushing the boundaries of viticulture and winemaking in Chile, with varieties formerly barely known in Chile. The first Chilean winery to use Screwcaps on their entire range of white wines. They were the first to produce and export Chilean Viognier. They were the first to produce Riesling from the Bio Bio Valley. They are the biggest Pinot Noir Producer in South America, and amongst the top five producers in the world (in volume).

They have also been innovative in terms of the packaging:

• In 1995 they were the first winery in South America to use synthetic corks.
• Since 2002 they were the first Chilean winery to use screw caps for aromatic white wines.

They are now moving towards organic viticulture, with their 40 hectare Chimbarongo estate in the Colchagua valley certified by BCS Oeko Garantie GMBH from Germany in 2003.

Cono Sur are placing great emphasis on producing Pinot Noir.  In 1999 they set the goal of producing the best Pinot Noir in Chile.  Later the goal evolved into creating a world class Pinot Noir.  They have hired a Burgundian winemaker to add impetus to this quest.  Their top wine, Ocio, is Chile's first super premium Pinot Noir .
